Musée départemental Matisse

In this museum created by Henri Matisse himself, you will follow the path of his life devoted to creation, colour and light. From his first works, marked in particular by the decorative dimension of the textile motifs made in the region, through the cut-out papers, to the completion of the Chapelle de Vence, you will discover the influence of the North on this world-famous artist. Another emblematic artist of the North, Auguste Herbin, brings you closer to one of the most innovative periods in the history of modern art: geometric abstraction. Thanks to the donation of Alice Tériade, the museum's collections have been enriched with exceptional works by Picasso, Rouault, Giacometti, Léger, Miro and Chagall. Temporary exhibitions are regularly organised, in collaboration with the world's greatest museums, accompanied by numerous cultural and artistic activities for all ages, which will make you want to come and ... to come back. Train: stop "Le Cateau" + taxi Dambrun 06 83 30 39 70 or Taxi Caudry 06 21 54 32 90. Open every day except Tuesday from 10am to 6pm. Closed on 1 January, 1 November and 25 December.
